As of 1 month and a bit since my last post, I am found on my white throne pondering and awaiting on my next epiphanic inspiration to continue on with this blog. The one and only one excuse, is that I was busy…. actually it was more of the case of could not be stuffed coupled with some shaped internet
but as I might have alluded in the creation of this blog, the white throne and the many stories that accompany it might surface on this blog eventually, just not today.
This really brings me to the 2nd title that follows the forward slash (or is it backwards, I really don’t know). Wake. Why? Because right now its 7am, I have not slept to actually experience waking up for the day, however I am at the wake of embarking on another “mission trip” to Hong Kong / China. In about 3 hours I’ll be flying off from Perth airport into the blue yonder to touch down in my beloved fragrant harbour.
Mission trip in quotation marks because that is how the church tends to like to see it as. Personally, I believe it detracts away from what the original intention of the word “mission”. The word mission is frequently synonymous with going away from home (usually overseas) for a period of time to do the work of God. However when you sit down and think about it, going overseas for a couple of weeks to minister and spread the gospel, how much impact is there really? Sure God is sovereign and He definitely does all things for good, and good will be gleaned from the seeds sown in the short trip, however that cannot be just it, it has to be a long lasting impact. Afterall somewhere in the Word of God it says something along the lines that if a person was to be born again into the truth and salvation that Jesus brings, but then turns around back to his worldly ways again, his spiritual being will be damaged even more (like I said, not to sure about this passage exactly but the gist isthere).
With that thus, these “short-term” mission trips that we frequently partake on, really is an awareness trip. Rightly so in that it allows us to become aware of the needs of those that we don’t immediately see, and to stir within our hearts to recognise what breaks God’s own heart. Afterall, Jesus came to save those that were down and out, lost and hurting, and the sinners.
The word missions often evokes within me a sense of a goal that is to be fulfilled. Hence if going on a short 3 week trip to Hong Kong and China to evangelise and minister is considered missions, I believe that does not do the biblical definition of missions justice. When you take into account that the great commision has all Christians to bring the word and disciple people in all nations, and all means all, no buts, therefore the momment we step into salvation we begin missions. Missions is a lifestyle neccesary of the Christian faith.
I’ve rambled on this quite a bit, but now my ride to the airport is here so I’ll try to update this blog when I get the opportunity to. Till then pray for me
