Dead Space

Even though Dead Space has pretty much been released all over the world, the official release for Australia is tomorrow and I secured myself a copy one day ahead because I’m a special video game reviewer for the Australian market. Okay I lie, haha, it’s only because I pre-ordered it from Harvey Norman and the guy in charge of the games department was so excited he called me yesterday to tell me that I could pick it up already. I don’t normally pre-order games because there isn’t much incentive too unless it’s a behemoth like Halo 3 and might run out, but this time it comes with an artbook (of which I’m still waiting on) that might make some good coffee table reading if the pre-release images of the game are anything to go by. But sadly here I am stuck in uni ploughing away at my dissertation and probably won’t get to capitalise on the earlier than normal reception of this game.

I don’t really know too much about this game because I don’t want to spoil the storyline etc for myself and just in case I’ll get let down (unlikely if the scores on reviews are anything to go by and it’s already being touted as the best game experience of 2009). But put simply it’s a survival sci-fi horror game, pretty much silent hill or resident evil set in space. Can’t say I have played those games in the series, but I do really enjoy playing a good single player game, e.g. Bioshock last year. But with that said, I hope my playing of Dead Space won’t follow the path of Bioshock where I pretty much never got further than chapter two because I didn’t have the time to sit down to be immerse in the whole expereince in pretty much one continuos sitting. And that’s how I like to play my games.

So because of that, even though I got this game sitting in my bag, I’m at uni trudging away at my dissertation which I had every intention to finish a few days ago. But now a reschedule should hopefully see me finish the huge majority of it by tonight, and just leaving some editing and stuff for tomorrow. And then it’ll be pretty much studying for exams. And once exams finish I can begin my quest to start and finish these games again! :)

So my to-play list after exams would be:

  1. Bioshock
  2. Dead Space
  3. Gears of War2 (If I got the cash ahaha)

And all these will be interspersed with Guitar Hero: World Tour. Party times at my house!

Goodness me my Xbox360 is going to be my best friend post-exam…

who needs a relationship! :D

Actually I’ll make special exception if said person has an awesome tv, and surround sound system. Simply because I want the full immersion of experience only possible by a surround sound system that I lack.

Oh well, here’s hoping that dead space left in my dissertation will be filled.
