eBay Groove

So I was studying, so I thought I’ll take a break, so I thought I’ll head over to eBay…

I’ve kept myself away from eBay for quite a while because I know I’ll end up wasting time lusting after expensive music gear that is way to far out of my reach

aside: God I want that Nord stage extreme 88…. if only I had $4k to spare a month ago when I went to megamusic for their sale and they listed INCORRECTLY the price for the 88key version for the 76key which is about a $1.5k saving! If only I had the cash…..

Anyways, so I was getting back into the groove of eBay, checking out featured items, xbox360 games, accessories and what not… then I started to stray off using keywords like korg, and roland…. and I find the Roland D2 Groovebox!

If you refer to an earlier post called KAOSS where I made mention to an X/Y controller and I incorrectly stated it was a Roland MC-303, it is actually a D2. So last night I found it! After missing it earlier this year because miscalculated it, I decided last night that I will get it and SO I DID! I won it about half an hour ago! This is what it looks like:

And here is a demo:

Seems cool! It’s a gawdy bright orange! Plenty good to grab attention

Anyway not only did I win it half an hour ago, I won it for a cheaper price compared to what I would have paid for had I bidded on it earlier this year! Only problem now is that I’m already quite poor… with 2 camps to pay for and exams thus restricting me from workign as much so I might just have enouhg to cover me…..

Maybe that might fuel the creative genius in home… being poor therefore stuck at home…. with an apparantly hard to navigate groovebox to learn :)

But for the next week I better get into the exam groove…..

KAOSS

How fitting, a week after talking about chaos, I find myself rambling about chaos once again. But this time its not chaos… but rather KAOSS. To any music tech nerd, or dj out there, most would know that KAOSS is the name for an X/Y axis controller pad that is drop dead sexy =D~

look! :

Korg KP3

Well I’ve always had an affection for wierd music equipment, I guess it’s just my quest to be the most unique musician out there despite my subpar chops :) nonetheless… remember GAS…. (look at my “I’m who” page to understand more). Anyway this came to my attention once again when Brian asked me if it was worth his cash to get one, so I googled it and came across something really really cool. A GUITAR MODDED WITH A KAOSS PAD FITTED IN! (Here and There) It’s so crazy that I have even more reason to want to learn how to play guitar…. even if it were to be hacked to such a way that I compensate for no guitar skill for uber coolness on stage and ability to create some really cool sound effects!

From looking at the mods these guys did to their guitars got the old cranium cranking that maybe I could do something with the useless midi modules lying around the house (have no idea what, but I’m sure there is something possible). Really, I like to believe I’m an engineer at heart :) if only I knew more, the world would be powerless against me! mAUHAUHA. Back to the point, modding musical instrument reminds me of Clement doing the shell of his snare, and maybe that means I could sand down the wooden sides of my VK7 and give it a more vintage look to it (although that won’t make it sound any better, but it will look better!)…. hmmmmm time, money and tools and inspiration will be all I need :)

The KAOSS pad also reminds me of another x/y axis controller that I WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING….. the Roland MC-303 groovebox…. now it was just plain stupid of me to not calculate the time properly on eBay, so the auction ended one day earlier then I expected….. oh well guess it wasn’t meant to be. My first exposure to the KAOSS pad was actually in the catalog to the megamusic sale, where they were selling it as a doorbuster item for AUD80 which is dirt cheap… So I blame my commitment to my youth group that if I was to miss youth group to wait in line for a few nights just to get my hands on this thing, I would seriously get chopped, sometimes I just wished….

Okay, I think this post is Kaotic enough as it is, probably quite a marked difference in the style and tone compared to the previous post, but oh well, variety is chaos :)
